Africa Traveling

Kenya

From golden savannahs with acacia trees to the glacier-capped volcano Mount Kenya. But also white beaches, rainforests and desert: Kenya has it all!

Best time to travel

The best time to travel to Kenya is from late December to March and from June to October. In these dry seasons you have the best chance of spotting wildlife. The best time to see the Great Migration in Maasai Mara National Park is from July to October.

Climate

Because Kenya is located near the equator, it is generally always pleasantly warm, with temperatures varying by region. Kenya has two rainy seasons each year; from mid-March to June and from November to December.

Why

Kenya?

Horse riding on Mount Kenya

Nothing is as unique as exploring Mount Kenya on horseback. Prefer a bit more time? It is also possible to go on a 2-day adventure on these faithful four-legged friends and camp in the rainforest.

Experience fly-camping

One of the most special activities in Kenya: fly-camping. An experience where you become one with nature. During the day you make a walking safari and in the evening you sleep in the open air next to a campfire and under the stars, in the beating heart of the wilderness.

Witness the Great Migration

Every year, the savannahs of the Masaai Mara National Park are the scene of the largest migration of land mammals on earth. The moment when thousands of wildebeests simultaneously plunge into the Mara River. A sight that will stay with you forever.
“We booked a 19-day self-drive holiday in Kenya for 4 people in October through Jouw Afrika Reis. We really enjoyed it. We received excellent information about everything we needed to know and a clear picture of how the trip would go. Jouw Afrika Reis knows Africa inside and out, because they have been almost everywhere themselves. They listen carefully to your wishes, so that you really get a tailor-made holiday. Definitely recommended to book your trip here!”

On Flavor Adventure in Kenya

Beer drinkers and meat eaters are in the right place in Kenya. At least, if you like lukewarm beer… Kenyans prefer their beer warm! They are also real carnivores, almost all dishes contain meat. Want to try more Kenyan delicacies? Then try the fruit candy made from the baobab (monkey bread tree). This candy has a rather unusual, spicy taste and is a real hit in Kenya!

Our accommodations

Kenya has a variety of accommodations for every budget. From exclusive safari lodges to luxury glampings and community-owned homestays with the local population. All our accommodations have been visited by Jouw Afrika Reis and checked for sustainability and social impact.

Safari

In the well-known national parks it can get quite busy. Fortunately, there is also a lot to discover off the beaten track in Kenya. For example on the Laikipia Plateau in Central Kenya, which stretches from Mount Kenya to the northern desert areas. In this enormous wildlife area, tourism is small-scale and sustainable with initiatives from local communities.

The coast of Kenya

Do you want to dive, snorkel or kitesurf? You can do all that in Kenya! Many places on the coast are overcrowded and overrun by mass tourism. Your Africa Journey takes you to the deserted beaches, where the water is clear blue and the lodges are sustainable.

Discover Kenya in a sustainable way

Sustainability is our standard. As a traveler, you don’t have to worry about that. We ensure that your dream trip is sustainable. Small-scale and local are our keywords. With community-owned accommodations and destinations off the beaten track, where we work directly with local partners. In this way, we ensure an authentic travel experience and at the same time contribute to the well-being of the local population. About the birds and the bees: the social projects of Your Africa Journey

Sustainability is more than a buzzword for Jouw Afrika Reis. Of course, our trips have an impact. We do everything we can to make it as positive as possible. For example, we support various social projects to improve the lives of the local population. Like Honeybee Heroes, a project that allows our travelers to adopt a beehive in the Western Cape of South Africa. Thanks to this project, a woman without an income now has a job that allows her to send her children to school, and at the same time we help nature.
