Africa Traveling

About us

Our love for Africa started in 2014 and after living in South Africa for years, we have explored all corners of southern and eastern Africa. Inspired by the lack of diversity in standard travel, Jouw Afrika Reiser strives to let you discover authentic Africa in a carefree and sustainable way, away from mass tourism. Here you can find more about our mission, our experiences and how we make your dream adventure in Africa come true.

Hi! I'm Tessa

The hidden treasures of Tanzania

Tanzania has so much more to offer than just the popular northern safari circuit. In the lesser-known south of the country there are beautiful game parks where you will hardly encounter other tourists. One example is Ruaha National Park, home to 10% of all lions in the world. In addition, the rainforests of the Mahale Mountains offer the opportunity to go in search of chimpanzees.

Refined wine experiences in the Western Cape

Everyone knows about the Stellenbosch vineyards, but there are so many more beautiful winelands to discover in the Western Cape. Think Franschhoek, the lush Robertson Wine Valley and the charming village of Montagu with its Victorian houses. Enjoy a stay in small-scale B&Bs on rural farms and taste the best local wines with panoramic views of jagged mountain ranges.

Unspoilt Namibia and Botswana

Want to explore Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes and game parks, far away from the crowds? Then I highly recommend a tour through Namibia and Botswana. Sparsely populated Namibia is home to some of the world’s most impressive landscapes, perfect for an unforgettable road trip. Botswana is known as one of Africa’s most unique safari destinations, with highlights including the wildlife-rich Okavango Delta.

Why Africa?

Africa has it all. Nowhere else in the world will you see so many different landscapes. From deserts to jungles, vast savannahs, rugged mountain ranges, vineyards, wetlands and the whitest bounty beaches. The indescribable beauty and untouched nature are unparalleled. And of course the animals, because in Africa the animals are still in charge. What makes Africa really special, however, are the people. The authentic contact with the local population, their unconditional love for strangers without expecting anything in return. It is these encounters that make a trip to Africa unforgettable.

Our local partners

Your Africa Journey always works directly with local partners in Africa. Without intermediaries, so that your money ends up in the right place. We always aim for a personal relationship in the long term, based on equality. With a fair salary and good working conditions. We do not work with hotel chains, but always choose small-scale and sustainable accommodations. We prefer to choose lodges and guesthouses run by the community itself. This way we know for sure that your money ends up with the local population. Curious about our local partners?

The Your Africa Travel team

Matt gids

Gravel Africa

Matt is the local guide for Gravel Africa’s annual cycling tours. He puts together the routes, among other things, because he knows the cycling routes of South Africa like the back of his hand.

“I love guiding groups and introducing participants to the best of South Africa. My goal is to give you a unique gravel experience and let you experience the best of the Cape Cross route. What better way to do that than by bike?”

Marinus Wijngds

South Africa

Marinus comes from Stellenbosch, South Africa. He believes that their wine culture is just as diverse as South Africa itself. With his wine tours, he likes to show visitors the undiscovered wine regions. With a new movement of young, independent winemakers. Including women and South Africans of color. More inclusive and sustainable. That is what gives Marinus hope.

ā€œI love the soil, how the different microclimates influence the ā€˜terroir’. In every glass of wine you can taste the soul of the area.ā€

Thomas

Tanzania Safari and Mountain Guide

Thomas has over ten years of experience as a safari and mountain guide in Tanzania. He likes to show his clients the unbeaten track. He also likes to take the time to tell you about his country and the animals you will encounter on your trip.

“I know every corner of the game parks, and I know exactly where each animal lives. So if you want to spot a snake or a cheetah, I will take you to the place where I know you will see a snake or a cheetah.”

Barbara

Local partner Southern Africa

Barbara’s motto in Southern Africa is ‘Don’t just travel’, because travelling is much more than just booking a hotel room.

ā€œIt’s about experiencing local cultures, wildlife and local gastronomy, and contributing to positive change through tourism. We have found a kindred spirit in Your Africa Journey. They go the extra mile to create unique journeys. As a local partner, we are honored to make those journeys a reality, and to ensure that their clients lack nothing at the destination.ā€

The positive impact of your Africa trip

Sustainability is more than a buzzword for Jouw Afrika Reis. Of course, our trips have an impact. We do everything we can to make it as positive as possible. For example, we support various social projects to improve the lives of the local population. Like Honeybee Heroes, a project that allows our travelers to adopt a beehive in the South African Western Cape. Thanks to this project, a woman without an income now has a job that allows her to send her children to school, and at the same time we help nature.

Sustainable, small-scale and local

Sustainable travel is the standard for Your Africa Trip. As a traveler, you don’t have to worry about that: we ensure that your Africa trip is sustainable. We do this in various ways. By choosing destinations outside the tourist routes, the income is also distributed more fairly. We work directly with local partners, and our accommodations are always sustainable and small-scale, preferably run by the communities. In this way, we want to enable in-depth contact with the local population. Where tourism is an exchange of cultures, more than a circus act. This also provides the authentic experiences that make a trip to Africa so special. Off the beaten track, in places you didn’t know existed. A win-win situation: you experience the Africa trip of your dreams, and together we make the world a little better.
