Africa Traveling

Botswana

Botswana is a true pioneer in the field of small-scale and sustainable tourism, far away from the hordes of tourists. The accommodations are usually very luxurious and almost always located in the most special places the country has to offer.

Best time to travel

The best time to travel to Botswana is from June to mid-November. These dry winter months are ideal for safaris, as animals gather at waterholes and vegetation is sparse. In summer, the rain can be so heavy that some places become inaccessible, and it is too hot for most travellers.

Climate

The climate in Botswana varies per season. In the dry summer months, from May to October, the temperature is between 20 and 30 degrees. At night it can get quite cold, especially in the desert. In the water-rich Okavango Delta the climate is milder. In the rainy season, between November and April, you can expect temperatures above 30 degrees.

Recommendations

Rivers meandering through grasslands, lush green islands full of wildlife and magical lagoons filled with water lilies: the Okavango Delta is not on the UNESCO World Heritage List for nothing. Also nice: tourism here is small-scale and sustainable, with luxury accommodations in the middle of nature.

Known for

Botswana is the ideal safari destination. This country has many untouched nature parks and game reserves with different landscapes full of wild animals. From the water-rich Okavango Delta to the Kalahari Desert and the Chobe River with its countless elephants. In Botswana you will see African nature at its most beautiful.

Sleep among the big five and bathe in luxury

Botswana is one of Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations, and a pioneer in the field of sustainable tourism. Large parts of the country have been declared a nature reserve, and most nature reserves are not fenced. This allows the animals to roam freely! In addition, most accommodations are small-scale, but more luxurious than luxury. Not only can you spot a large variety of wild animals from your accommodation, the landscapes in each region are also different. From the enormous herds of elephants on the Chobe River to curious meerkats on the Makgadikgadi salt plains, but also lions and leopards in the Okavango Delta. Botswana will conquer your heart! You can also go on safari in many ways, such as on horseback, in a canoe, with a jeep or on foot. Your Africa Travel is happy to think along with you about what type of safari best suits your wishes!

Why

Botswana?

MOKORO Boot safari

Want to experience Botswana in a local and unique way? Then go on safari in a Mokoro, a traditional wooden canoe propelled by a stick. Thanks to this silent way of moving, you can spot even more birds and wildlife.

Sleeping on the salt flats

Sleep under the stars in the area where all human life once began: the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi. From here you can admire a spectacular sunset and magical sunrise. An experience you will never forget!

The rugged wilderness of Moremi in

The Moremi Game Reserve is one of the world’s most unique nature parks. Here you can spot large herds of wild animals, surrounded by the rugged wilderness of Botswana. As far as we are concerned, one of the most beautiful places in Africa to go on safari!
“Jouw Afrika Reis is a top organization that listens to travelers. We had an unforgettable trip put together through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Tessa, we are super happy with you.”

“Bless the rains down in Africa”

In the Netherlands, we prefer to go on holiday to the sun, far away from the chance of rain. In Botswana, things are a little different: in this arid country, rain is extremely rare. Rain is therefore greatly revered here! In fact, a huge downpour is the recipe for a big smile on the faces of the local population in Botswana. It is also one of the reasons why the Okavango Delta has the highest concentration of animals on earth: all large mammals come from far and wide to this oasis to hydrate.

Our accommodations

From unique glampings to luxury safari lodges; Botswana has a varied range of accommodations for every budget. We choose as much as possible for small-scale accommodations, run by local communities. Every place has been visited by ourselves. This way we know for sure that every place meets all your personal wishes!

Safari

We’ve said it before: Botswana is one of the most unique and rugged safari destinations in Africa. In addition to national parks, Botswana also has private game reserves such as the Moremi Game Reserve, on the edge of the Okavango Delta. This pristine nature reserve, with both wetlands and dry areas, is great for a 4×4 self-drive.

Fly-in safari

Are you short on time, but don’t want to miss any highlights? With a fly-in safari, you fly in small planes from one nature reserve to another. This way, you can see completely different landscapes in a short time. For example, start your trip at the famous Victoria Waterfalls in Zimbabwe and continue your journey by air to the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta.

Go on a sustainable safari

Sustainability is our standard. As a traveler, you don’t have to worry about that. We ensure that your dream trip is sustainable. Small-scale and local are our keywords. With community-owned accommodations and destinations off the beaten track, where we work directly with local partners. In this way, we ensure an authentic travel experience and at the same time contribute to the well-being of the local population. About the birds and the bees: the social projects of Your Africa Journey

Sustainability is more than a buzzword for Jouw Afrika Reis. Of course, our trips have an impact. We do everything we can to make it as positive as possible. For example, we support various social projects to improve the lives of the local population. Like Honeybee Heroes, a project that allows our travelers to adopt a beehive in the Western Cape of South Africa. Thanks to this project, a woman without an income now has a job that allows her to send her children to school, and at the same time we help nature.
